How to play ranked Minecraft

mcladder turns Minecraft into a competitive ranked ladder: queue up, race randomized survival challenges against a real opponent, and climb from Wood to Netherite. Here is everything you need, from a fresh install to your first ranked win.

Install the mod

mcladder ships as a single Fabric mod — one jar, nothing else to configure.

  1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.2, or create a Fabric 26.2 instance in a launcher like Prism or the Modrinth App.
  2. Drop the mcladder jar into your mods folder. No other mods are required — everything is bundled.
  3. Launch the game. The main menu becomes the mcladder hub.

Link your Minecraft account

You play on a licensed Minecraft account. mcladder verifies ownership through Mojang's standard flow, so your password and token never reach us.

To connect your profile to the website, open your account in the hub and follow the one-time link — it proves you own the account without a separate password.

Play your first match

In the hub, press Find match. Matchmaking pairs you against a player close to your rating.

Every match rolls three random challenges — gather resources, craft gear, or hunt mobs in the Overworld or the Nether. Both players get the same challenges and the same world seed, so it is a fair race.

First to complete all three challenges wins. With 0 matches you are unranked; games 1–4 show Calibration N/5 and keep ELO, deltas and placement private. The fifth completed game reveals your rank and peak tracking.

Play Duo with a friend

Prefer teams? Create a party with an invite code and queue Duo. You and your partner race a second team through the same challenges — coordination beats raw speed.

Duo estimates each team's chance from its average ELO, then applies a personal delta to every player. Your public profile combines Solo and Duo W-D-L, matches and efficiency.

Climb the ladder

The current ladder ranks are configured in one shared manifest, and each starts at its own ELO threshold. Win to rise, lose to fall.

Your highest ELO is kept as your peak forever, and seasons reset the ladder so everyone gets a fresh climb.

Tips for new players

  • Know your three challenges before you dig in — plan the fastest route through all of them.
  • Leaving matches early carries a search penalty, so finish what you queue for.
  • Watch replays of top players on their profiles to learn faster routes.
